Congressional Republicans have largely denounced the
criminal indictment of Trump in the classified documents case — calling it
politically motivated, and of course blaming President Biden and every DEM, the entire FBI, and DOJ for making it political, which in my view is 100% BS.
There are examples galore – do the search and see below nine
of the most-disgusting. The story of three in the House is from THE HILL
with this headline of the top three:
“House GOP leaders defend
Trump on day of his arraignment saying it is: A dark day for our country”
Full details below (formatted
to fit the blog):
The top three Republican House leaders (in the photo above) defended Trump on the day of his second
arraignment, calling it a “dark day for our country.”
GOP House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA); GOP House Majority Leader
Steve Scalise (R-LA); and GOP House Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-NY)
pushed back against the DOJ over their 37-count Grand Jury indictment of Trump, arguing that it shows that
equal justice is not being carried out in the country.
GOP House Speaker Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) on multiple occasions he has raised President Biden’s alleged mishandling of classified documents to reporters in discussing the indictment. He asked why a determination was made for the FBI to carry out a search warrant of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago for the documents that were missing while the same didn’t happen at Biden’s office and residence — where other documents were found. He also noted that the searches for Biden’s documents by the FBI were conducted in cooperation with the president’s team, while Trump did not have a warning ahead of the Mar-a-Lago search.
McCarthy then stated publicly: “What’s really concerning to me is when you look at how they went about treating President Trump and President Biden with these documents, much different. That anyone who has classified documents needs to ensure that they return them, including Biden. Is there a way that that could have been done? Because I haven’t had you ask me one question about the current president having classified documents. I haven’t had you [ask] me one question about the current president as a senator, why he even would have classified documents? Does that raise any questions to you?”
FYI NOTE: AG Garland
appointed Attorney Robert Hur as S/C to conduct an investigation
into the documents found at Biden’s home.
GOP House Majority
Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) argued to reporters that some of the photos
that were taken at Mar-a-Lago of the boxes of documents that Trump had were
sensationalized. The indictment
document included photos of boxes being left in
locations like a ballroom stage and a storage room at Trump’s Florida
resort. Scalise noted that one photo included in the indictment that
showed boxes with documents “spewed out did not include classified
documents and only had newspaper clippings and personal items.
Scalise then said:
“Is justice being carried out fairly is the question when you see some of those
pictures and go wait a minute, these are clippings and they’re trying to
present these as classified documents.”
FYI NOTE: The indictment states that one of the boxes spilled over
included a document marked “SECRET/REL TO USA, FVEY,” indicating that the
information was only authorized to be released to the “Five Eyes” (that is the
intelligence alliance of the U.S., United Kingdom; Canada; Australia; and New
Zealand).
GOP House Conference
Chair Elise Stefanik (R-NY) in a press release accused Biden of continuing
to “weaponize the federal government against Trump, who is his top opponent for
reelection in 2024.
She then added: “The
country sees a double standard in which Biden and former Secretary of State Clinton
have a set of rules different from everyone else.”
Stefanik further
said: “It’s never been more important that we unite behind President
Trump’s historic campaign to win the White House, to restore the rule of law,
and save our Republic. God bless America, President Trump, and all those targeted
by Biden’s regime as we continue our efforts to end this corrupt political
weaponization and stop the deep state.”
My 2 Cents: I have earlier posts on this general topic here and here.
Not much else to say except for those harping about losing our rights, voting and otherwise, may I suggest they peer in the nearest mirror as they repeat that same nonsense. Ms. Stefanik and all others with that same mindset, just STFU.
If Trump were to win
reelection (which he will not I believe) then it would he and not any DEM who
could destroy the nation on a savage vendetta mission NOT to save the country but
to wreak havoc anyway possible. Republicans love to use that new word: “weaponization”
– Trump would master that phrase beyond all rational belief.
Finally these two links: BUSINESS INSIDER and SALON are lists of Republicans
standing with and sticking with Trump for his 2024 run that he recently
announced (a tactic I might add he wants to help head off, slow down, and delay
his trial in the Mar-a-Lago 37-count classified document indictment trial).
Clever ploy by Trump, but SOP for him: Duck, dodge, deny, deflect,
distract, divert, and delay as much as possible any legal action case pending
against him. He has used that strategy his entire adult life and to date has
pretty much worked for him. But, I predict not now.
This classified documents case to far too serious and no amount of GOP talking points or chatter from him or FOX and such can take away the compelling evidence against Trump – he is in my view going to go down and going down hard. Wait and see.
Thanks for stopping by.
