From CNN: Did former Joe Biden receive $1.5 billion from
China? Big story across GOP conspiracy la-la land: Short answer: NO!!!
GOP, FOX, and RIGHTWING MEDIA CLAIM: Pushing the Trump conflated accusations
against Joe Biden when he was VP and now President along with his son Hunter
Biden for taking $1.5 billion from China and “while he goes on and one and
allows China to rip us off.” Trump said: “The Bidens got rich as America got
robbed.”
CONCLUSION: There is no evidence Joe Biden has
received large sums of money from China or has otherwise gained wealth as a
result of his son's business dealings abroad.
THE EVIDENCE: Trump has previously made the “Billion
five” accusation against Hunter Biden. While conservatives have used this
figure, it has not been proven.
Hunter Biden’s attorney, George Mesires, says the investment
company in which Hunter Biden has an equity stake was capitalized with a total
of about $4.2 million at today's exchange rates – NOT $1.5 billion.
Even this investment was not a direct payment to Hunter
Biden, who holds a mere 10% stake in the firm and to date, he HAS NOT made any
profit.
Bohai Harvest RST (BHR) (located in Shanghai) and Equity
Investment Fund Management Company. Through one of his lawyers, George
Mesires, Hunter Biden promised to leave the board of the
Chinese firm by the end of October 2019, and his resignation was submitted to
China’s National Credit Information Publicity System and approved in the spring
of 2020.
Now, how about Jared Kushner getting $2 billion from Saudi Crown Prince MBS while actually dealing to get $10 billion.
That story from this RAWSTORY/MSNBC
exposé (April 16, 2022) with this headline:
“Saudi Arabia gave Jared Kushner $2 billion — but MBS discussed
giving him $10 billion”
The public corruption implications of Saudi Arabia giving Jared Kushner $2 billion could have been even worse according to a new report by journalist Jonathan Alter.
Alter was on MSNBC to discuss the scandal when he broke news on-air about the funding of Jared Kushner by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS).
That interview in part:
MSNBC Host Ayman Mohyeldin asked Alter: “What do you make of this
payout from the Saudi wealth fund — that is directly managed, or at least
overseen, by the crown prince — to Jared Kushner?”
Jonathan Alter responded:
“First of all, I can tell you something tonight that has not been reported
before that comes from sources inside the private equity industry, and that is
the original number was ten billion and it was reduced. Ten billion dollars was
the original number that MBS and Jared Kushner were talking about. Now, to put
this in a little bit of context, Jared Kushner has no background in private
equity. So this is an enormously corrupt payoff from a killer who just was
quoted in the Atlantic recently saying that Jamal Khashoggi wouldn't have even
been in the top ten of people that he would have liked to have seen killed.”
Alter then described
the scandal as “The “worst thing a relative of a president has ever done.”
Added to that is this
8 minute 45 second YouTube segment of the same story explained on “Morning Joe”
February 13, 2023):
My 2 Cents: Noteworthy is this statement from GOP House Oversight
Committee chairman Rep. James Comer (R-KY) on this here in part from TPM.
Comer relied on the
classic political cop out on the ABC THIS WEEK Sunday show when asked if House
Republicans will look into former President Donald Trump and his son-in-law
Jared Kushner’s financial entanglements with the Saudis.
Comer blurted out when ABC News host George Stephanopoulos asked if the GOP-led House Oversight
Committee will investigate Kushner’s ties to the Saudis, saying: “I think
everything’s on the table.”
But Comer, who’s the chair of the Oversight Committee, then quickly
pivoted away from answering that specific question and started talking about
his committee’s overwhelming priority: Hunter Biden, saying: “Look,
we’re investigating Joe Biden. We — we know that Joe Biden said during the
presidential campaign that he had no knowledge of his son’s business interests.
He wasn’t involved. He didn’t benefit from them. We have evidence that would
suggest otherwise. And this is very concerning.”
Hey, Mr. Comer: – So, Jared Kushner getting $2 billion from the Saudis (MBS) who has a horrible track record to you and other Republicans is NOT concerning we suppose?
How hypocritical
of you – you sorry low-life scoundrel. As usual, you duck, dodge, deny, deflect,
and distract from your favorite GOP playbook chapter I surmise. Shame on you.
Trump’s slick dealing with
MBS and the Saudis is a classic Trump flim-flam as seen in this report.
Thanks for stopping by.
