Members of the Oath Keepers facing seditious conspiracy
charges in connection with the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol have lost
their latest bid to delay the trial as stated here in this headline story from Law and Crime:
“I’m
Not Going to Move This Trial says the Judge Overseeing Oath Keepers Seditious
Conspiracy Case Refuses to Change September Trial Date”
Their “leader” pictured above faces five very serious Federal
charges seen in the above chart.
Highlights from
the article:
Oath Keepers leader Stewart Rhodes (pictured above) and co-defendants Kelly Meggs, Kenneth Harrelson, Jessica
Watkins, and Thomas Caldwell all had asked to move the trial from its
current September 26 start date to at least January of 2023. The Judge
responded forcefully – the trial will move forward as schedule.
Judge Mehta had previously
resisted efforts to delay the trial, although he did agree — somewhat
reluctantly — in May to move the Rhodes trial from July to September.
At that time, most of the
lawyers agreed that they would not ask for another continuance except under
extraordinary circumstances.
Rhodes and his co-defendants are accused of gathering a
stockpile of weapons and readying a so-called “Quick Reaction Force (QRF)”
prepared to ferry them across the Potomac in support of rioters at the National
Capitol who were angry over Trump‘s 2020 election loss.
Nine defendants are currently expected to be part of the trial starting in September, including Rhodes.
Three members have already / pleaded / guilty to
seditious conspiracy and obstruction of Congress. All three are cooperating
with the government’s investigation. A trial for other Oath Keepers members not
facing seditious conspiracy charges is set for February 2023.
The full story continues at the link – true it is lengthy, but very educational and worthwhile.
My 2 Cents: I have nothing to add except to say I hope they all get
big prison sentences – they earned it.
Thanks for stopping by.
