If a former federal prosecutor is right, a torn-up note
could be a key piece of evidence for special counsel Jack Smith in
his case against Trump seen in this NEW
REPUBLIC article headline:
“A Ripped-Up Note Could Help
Jack Smith Take Down Donald Trump”
The note can prove Trump’s
January 6 intent.
Background: In
the weeks immediately preceding the January 6 insurrection, Trump’s first national security adviser,
Michael Flynn, claimed on Newsmax: “President Trump could take military
capabilities and rerun an election in key swing states that he lost.”
The military shot down the idea when then-Army secretary Ryan McCarthy and then-Army Chief
of Staff James McConville both
said in a joint statement: “There’s no role for the military in determining
the outcome of an American election.”
Shortly after the
military made its stance known, Trump
aide John McEntee wrote
note to Trump, which could be the proof Smith needs to show Trump's
intent: “Chris Miller (Acting Secretary of Defense) spoke to both
of them and anticipates no more statements coming out. If another happens, he
will fire them.”
Trump ripped up the note,
which has since been reconstructed and was used as part of the House Committee’s
January 6 investigation.
Trump in December tweeted a call to action from his supporters asking
them to join him in D.C. on January 6 posting: “Big protest in D.C. on
January 6. Be there, will be wild!”
That reconstructed note,
collected as part of the House January 6 Committee’s investigation, and now
appears in the pages of ABC News journalist Jonathan Karl’s latest book: “Tired
of Winning: Donald Trump and the End of the Grand Old Party.”
Nicolle Wallace (MSNBC
host) asked former DOJ official Andrew Weissmann:
“Doesn’t that get right at his intent of what he wanted them to do?”
Weissmann said: “Absolutely”
and then he concluded: “As much as you think of it as a military organization
with a hierarchy, they are also trained that they do not violate the
Constitution. And when there’s an invalid order, they know that they cannot
follow it because the Constitution comes first.”
My 2 Cents: This update
(Jonatan Karl's interview and his new book) seems pretty clear-cut to me…
It’s to finally nail Trump
and get him out of the public limelight and help return us to some sort of
normalcy – even if that’s humanly possible after all the destruction that Trump
has levied on the country in a short period of time.
Thanks for stopping by.
