Rep. James Comer (R-KY): Chairman of GOP House Oversight Committee and Leading Weasel

Goes down a Rabbit Hole after Joe Biden
(FYI: There ain't no there, there)

Second update on the following main story that keeps growing almost daily now by the Republicans in charge of the House in the revenge trip of saving Trump from any indictment for any crime as they go further down the hole to nail the Manhattan DA, Alvin Bragg and that Grand Jury in NYC – reported on here from NBC NEWS with this from that whack job Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and this headline:

“Jim Jordan requests testimony from ex-prosecutors, expanding probe into Manhattan DA”

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) has now requested testimony from two former prosecutors, expanding the Republican’s investigation into Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg amid the grand jury probe of Trump.

This follows the first update (see next) and both are tied to the original article that follows after that (and as I said this Jordan whatever thing is growing into la-la land for sure). This from NBC News:

Jordan sent letters to two former prosecutors, Mark Pomerantz and Carey Dunne, who were involved in a criminal investigation of Trump and the Trump Organization. Those two abruptly resigned from the Manhattan DA’s office last year.

At the time, The NY Times, cited two sources who reported that the resignations came after DA Bragg began to back away from the probe into Trump and his company, and had paused the Grand Jury testimony.

Now, in his letters to those two former prosecutors, Jordan requests that they testify in a transcribed interview “as soon as possible and to turn over documents and information from Jan 2017 to the present.”

Jordan wrote to Pomerantz:Last year, you resigned from the office over Bragg’s initial reluctance to move forward with charges, shaming Bragg in your resignation letter — which was subsequently leaked — into bringing charges.”

Jordan continued:Based on your unique role in this matter, and your subsequent public statements prejudicing the impartiality of any prosecution, we request your cooperation with our oversight of this politically motivated prosecutorial decision.”

In his letter to Dunne, Jordan wrote that his resignation was: Over Bragg’s initial reluctance to move forward with charges in 2022, and that Bragg is now attempting to ‘shoehorn’ the same case with identical facts into a new prosecution.”

Stay tuned. I suspect more will follow based on DA Bragg’s response to Jordan from AXIOS just reported here with this headline:

“Manhattan DA sends scathing response to GOP’s request for testimony”

First update and original article follow:

First update on following main post reported on here from SALON.com with this key part of the article that shows without any doubt just how three key GOP committee chairs are truly sleazy as part of this “new” GOP with this story headline:

“House GOP leaders lash out at Manhattan DA over Trump’s possible arrest”

A trio of House committee leaders: Judiciary Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH); Oversight Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-KY); and Administration Chairman Rep. Bryan Steil (R-WI) sent DA Alvin Bragg (D-NY) the Manhattan DA, a four-page letter attacking Trump’s possible the indictment and asking for documents related to it, saying in part:

Rep. Jordan (R-OH); Rep. Comer (R-KY); Rep. Steil (R-WI)

You are reportedly about to engage in an unprecedented abuse of prosecutorial authority,” the letter began, while echoing Trump’s criticisms they accused Bragg of searching for a basis — any basis to prosecute the former president.

Noteworthy: Bragg’s office said prosecutors would not be deterred by the congressional letter, and a spokesperson said: We will not be intimidated by attempts to undermine the justice process, nor will we let baseless accusations deter us from fairly applying the law.”

House Republicans up and down the line also attempted to use the possibility of an arrest to fundraise and build a campaign list – cite this email from RNC:The Radical Left is trying to use this latest witch hunt to intimidate you. House Republicans will stand strong against these fear tactics and threats. But we can’t do it alone. Our country is at a turning point. We need every single patriot to immediately condemn this witch hunt.”

The RNC email then asks for supporters to click a link to “condemn the witch hunt” and that link leads to a page where users can make a campaign contribution and provide their personal information to the committee.

I add: All that sounds like something Trump would encourage the RNC to do on his behalf and of course theirs too – that is: To raise a ton of money for him and the RNC.

My short retort: That is sick and very pathetic.”

The original post follows from here:

Pathetic story from the Chairman of GOP-run House Oversight Committee Rep. James Comer (R-KY) with this headline from The Hill:

“Comer agrees it could be politically unsustainable to investigate Kushner”

Comer from KY, agreed that it could be politically unsustainable to investigate Jared Kushner — Trump’s son-in-law who served as a senior advisor in the White House. That in profile from The New York Times.

The Times interviewed Comer for six hours and posted that he said he did not rule out probing Kushner’s business dealings, but agreed with a reporter who suggested it might be politically unsustainable for him to investigate Kushner, saying: “I don’t disagree with what you said.”

Comer gained control of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee in January, when Republicans took control of the House.

The panel plays a central role in the House GOP’s investigative oversight, and the conference has vowed probes into a number of areas, including President Biden’s family, the situation at the southern border and the messy withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.

However, in his roughly first two months on the job, Comer eliminated a probe looking into Kushner’s business dealings.

The panel launched an investigation into Kushner in June 2022, when it was still in Democrats’ hands, zeroing in on whether or not the president’s son-in-law’s personal financial interests improperly influenced U.S. foreign policy during the Trump administration.

Democrats asked Kushner for documents related to an investment his firm, A Fin Management, LLC (Affinity), received from the Saudi Government soon after he departed the White House.

FYI: Kushner got $2 billion directly from Saudi Prince MBS shortly after he left the White House.

NOTE: The DEMS were investigating Kushner’s shady deal, but Comer shut it down after he took over the Oversight Committee.

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), the ranking Democrat on the Oversight committee re-upped that request in a letter to Kushner last month after his firm saying: “You failed to substantially comply with our requests, including by failing to produce the key documents we are seeking.”

Asked about investigating questions regarding Kushner’s ties to the Saudis, Comer told ABC’s “This Week” last month that “everything’s on the table” but turned to the panel’s probe into the Biden family’s business dealings, Comer said: I don’t disagree with the Democrats and their criticism of the previous administration. We have a problem here that needs a legislative solution. That’s why this Biden investigation is so important. There’s a legislative solution to this, and it can be bipartisan. The Democrats complained about Kushner’s foreign dealings. Republicans are certainly complaining about the entire Biden family’s foreign business dealings. We need to know what is allowable and what isn’t allowable. We need to have strict ethics laws. And we need to significantly increase the disclosure laws in America. So I think this investigation is going to be very important to fix a problem before it gets out of hand.”

Pressed on if that sentiment should apply to both Kushner and the Bidens, Comer added:I believe that when we talk about passing legislation to set a line as to where you can be with relatives of high-ranking government officials with respect to doing business with adversaries overseas, then it would apply to everyone. We need to fix this before it gets worse in the next administration.”

In the Times profile, however, Comer said he was not interested in Trump’s finances. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee highlighted the Times profile writing: That it raises new questions about Rep. Comer’s credibility.”

Lest we forget The Donald’s and Jared Kushner’s ties to China that date back a long time, much longer than to any Biden family member as reported on from CAP; and Slate; and recently from Newsweek, and from many other media sources.

Comer's mission in life or so it seems: After the 2022 midterm elections resulted in a House Republican majority, Comer said as the House Oversight Committee Chairman that his focus would be to investigate President Joe Biden, particularly him and his relationship with his family's foreign partners and whether he is a president is compromised or swayed by foreign dollars and influence.

Soon after he became Chairman, he responded in January 2023 to Biden’s classified documents incident by calling for visitor logs for Biden's residence, where Biden's lawyers found some classified documents from his vice presidency; the same day. On the same day, Comer also said that he would not call for visitor logs for Trump's residence Mar-a-Lago, where an FBI search found over 100 highly classified documents despite Trump and his lawyers claiming that no such documents were there.

Comer said he would investigate Biden because: Biden hasn’t been investigated, and there have been so many investigations of President Trump. I don’t feel like we need to spend a whole lot of time investigating President Trump.”

In early March, Comer confirmed that he had ended a House investigation into Trump's financial dealings, in which Trump's former accounting company, Mazars USA, had been turning over documents as part of a court-supervised settlement.

Those documents provided information on how foreign governments patronized the Trump International Hotel. Comer said he didn’t even know who or what Mazars was, and that he was instead investigating “money the Bidens received from China.”

Of course Comer looks past those Trump ties to China posted above, right? I wonder why? (wink, wink).

My 2 Cents: Rep. Comer is a pathetic partisan hack and weasel just like Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and his fantasy about hanging the Biden’ out to dry and a few other harsh Republicans – Trump always mentions being the DEM target of a witch hunt – well, Mr. Trump look no further than to your own sycophants in the GOP House.

And, BTW, sorry, but a Rick Perry debate style oops won’t suffice to cover you like it did him.

Thanks for stopping by.
