GOP Today: Lots of Election Deniers; Conspiracy Spreaders; Gun Nuts & Disloyal Representatives

Rep. Santos (NY); Rep. Luna (FL); Rep. Clyde (GA)
(Members of current GOP House)

The GOP crazies are now in control of the House – a well-known fact since the 2022 midterms. This TIME article reinforces that fact with this story headline. [Note: I also posted about that same subject here.]

“Why Some Members of Congress Are Wearing AR-15 Assault Rifle Pins”

Some Republican members of Congress have been seen sporting controversial new pins on their lapels in the shape of miniature AR-15 rifles.

They say the pins are symbols of their commitment to the Second Amendment and right to bear arms. The pins all have been enthusiastically distributed by Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA). Now even newcomers the House like Rep. George Santos (R-NY) and Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) also were spotted wearing the pins *all three seen above.

Democratic lawmakers and gun control advocates have been quick to denounce the flashy adornments as tone-deaf and disrespectful to families of gun violence victims where the weapon of choice has been the AR-15 used in high profile mass shooting locations in recent years, including at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, TX; Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT; and at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival in Las Vegas, NV.

Adzi Vokhiwa, the Federal Affairs Director of former Rep. Gabby Giffords (D-AZ) who was badly wounded in an assassination attempt in AZ in January 2011 said: Instead of addressing gun violence head-on and taking action to save lives, certain members of Congress have decided that flaunting AR-15 pins days after multiple mass shootings is a clever way to support Second Amendment rights. In all actuality, this statement is an insult to the victims of Monterey Park, Half Moon Bay, Uvalde, Parkland, Buffalo, and countless other mass shootings across our country.”

Now, less than two months into 2023, we have already recorded at least 54 mass shootings – that according to the research group: Gun Violence Archive.

My 2 Cents: Those wearing that pin are not only respectful to the victims and families of mass shootings with the AR-15 also of blatantly dishonorable to the nation in the office they serve representing out government. Shame on every one of them.

Thanks for stopping.
