Post-Oxford H/S Shooting: Gun Celebration in KY from GOP Member of Congress and Family

Rep. Massie Family Gun-Toting Christmas Greeting

Shameful display by a member of the Congress – utter arrogance in the face of families in Oxford, Michigan – GOP Rep. Massie (R-KY) seen above and the story here from Reuters news with this headline:

U.S. congressman posts family Christmas picture with guns, days after school shooting

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) posted (on Saturday, December 4) a Christmas picture of himself (holding a M-60 machine gun) and what appeared to be his family, all  smiling and posing with an assortment of guns (his wife is holding a Thompson sub-machine gun) just days after four teenagers were killed in a shooting at the Oxford Michigan high school.

Massie also later posted on Twitter:Merry Christmas! ps. Santa, please bring ammo.”

Background: Ethan Crumbley, 15, carried out the deadliest U.S. school shooting this year, the latest in a decades-long series of such mass shootings in schools. His parents have now been arrested and charged in connection with the slayings.

Massie, who represents a solidly Republican KY district, posted the picture of himself and six others holding firearms.

The shooting in Oxford, Michigan – in which four teenagers were killed and a teacher and six other students were wounded – was the latest in a string of sometimes-deadlier incidents that have prompted fierce debates over school safety, gun control and gun rights.

Some semi-automatic weapons are made to look nearly identical to fully automatic weapons like machine guns.

Under U.S. law, weapons like machine guns are restricted to the military, law enforcement and civilians who have obtained special licenses for weapons made before May 1986.

Jonathan van Norman, a campaign manager for Massie, did not immediately reply to a request for comment via Twitter.

But the media fallout has been swift as seen here.

My 2 cents: I don’t know whether the M-60 or Thompson MG were “plugged or not, and thus unable to be fired or not” but merely holding them with huge smiles only a few days after the Oxford death mass shooting spree is totally wrong and a sick show of utter arrogance and shame. Rep. Massie should resign – he has not an ounce dignity.

Of course, the GOP is silent on this why – they don’t want to p-off the NRA and big gun lobbyists and of course gun supporters with fat wallets that donate tons of money to keep the Massie types in office. Another shameful position to hold, too.

I don’t know for sure, but my hunch is that level-headed rational Republicans in Massie’s district will be repulsed by this and will not support him in 2022 – hopefully that is true and he will be tossed from office.

Supporting the 2nd Amendment with common sense is one thing (which I do) but to openly flaunt guns like this after another deadly mass shooting is inexcusable for anyone. Shame on Massie and his family for participating in that stunt and just before Christmas, too.

Thanks for stopping by.
