Define Political Insanity: Being a RED State Conservative Republican Calling for Secession

Civil War 1861-1865: First secession in America
(Hopefully the last)

America today: Not this precise but darn close

Pure utter insanity in this story from Business Insider it is not only troubling but damn scary, too with this headline:

“Majority of Trump voters believe it's time ‘to split the country’ in two, new poll finds”

·  A new poll has found that 52% of Trump voters want red states to secede.

·  Some 80% or more of both Biden and Trump voters fear the effects of the other party's policies.

·  The University of VA (UVA) survey showcases the extreme divisions between the two major political parties.

A majority of people who voted for Trump are in favor of breaking up the country (re: University of Virginia Center for Politics poll).

UVA surveyed 2,012 voters – half of whom voted for Trump, the other half for Biden – in late July in order to better understand the growing split between the Democratic and Republican Parties.

The results show a country at ideological war with itself: More than half of the surveyed Trump voters – approximately 52% - who said “the situation is such that I would favor [Blue-Red] states seceding from the union to form their own separate country.”

Approximately 41% of Biden voter respondents answered similarly.

Some Republicans have floated proposals to secede from the union, including former Texas GOP chair (and former one term Rep. in Congress) Allen West. (Note: This link is related to West and his wacky far out ideas and past statements).

After the Supreme Court rejected a lawsuit spearheaded by the Texas AG aimed at overturning the 2020 presidential election results, West said: Perhaps law-abiding states should bond together and form a Union of States that will abide by the constitution.”

The UVA survey also shows Republicans and Democrats heavily distrust one another, with 80% or more of respondents from each party saying the opposing side presents “A Clear and Present Danger to American democracy.”

In addition, 80% or more of survey respondents said they're worried they or someone close to them will experience “a personal loss or suffering due to the effects of the opposing party's policies.”

An overwhelming number Trump voters, about 83%, said that society needs to stop the many “radical and immoral people trying to ruin things in the country,” further noting that the U.S. needs “a powerful leader in order to destroy the radical and immoral currents prevalent in society.

Biden voters were less supportive of those same sentiments.

For example, 62% of Biden voters at least somewhat agreed that the country needs a “powerful leader in order to destroy the radical and immoral currents” in the country, compared to 83% of Republicans who said the same thing.

Larry Sabato, Director of UVA's Center for Politics, wrote: The divide between Trump and Biden voters is deep, wide, and dangerous. The scope is unprecedented, and it will not be easily fixed.”

Even if they can't agree with each other on policy or the direction of the country, around 80% of the voters polled from each side said they preferred democracy over any other style of government.

Both parties also seem to agree on major priorities like modernizing and improving infrastructure, as evidenced by a bipartisan infrastructure bill that passed the Senate in August with 19 GOP votes (this issue was not a poll question however).

Related and a fine article here from Laws101.

My 2 Cents: After reading this article and comments from Allen West and other Trump supporters, I was reminded of the 1967 Vietnam War song from “Buffalo Springfield: For What It’s Worthand the lyrics in part:Nobody’s right if Everybody’s wrongandParanoia strikes deep, into your life it will creep. It starts when you're always afraid. Step out of line, the men come and take you away.”

Today, we see far too much political paranoia and conspiracies run amok than I have ever seen in my lifetime.

The GOP is famous for falsely blaming DEMS for nearly everything and they have for years.

Lately that is stronger since the Trump years in office — a well-known fact.

The DEMS return fire but from my point of view not as strong the GOP's side.

This article as I said is damn scary and worrisome and sadly shows the national divide worse than ever. How do we repair the damage? That is the $64,000 question isn’t it?

I say strong focused leadership with an emphasis on truth telling – not more mis- and disinformation no matter from which side. The truth based on the  facts are what should always matter the most.

Decent people would hopefully follow that, otherwise good bye democratic United States instead we end up with what? The Disunited States of America??? I pray not.

Finally, review the aforementioned Texas v. White (1869) Supreme Court. It says a lot abot this topic.

Thanks for stopping by.
