DACA Kids (Dreamers) in Jeopardy under Trump
Policies
Typical Hypocritical Trump Tweet
(Blame everyone except himself)
November 20, 2014 (from
NBC News): President Obama announced broad executive action to offer
temporary relief from deportation to millions of undocumented immigrants saying
that the separation of families or the oppression of low-wage immigrant workers
is “not who we are as Americans.”
He then added: “If you've been in America for more than five years; if you have
children who are American citizens or legal residents: (1) and if you register,
(2) pass a criminal background check, and (3) are willing to pay your fair
share of taxes — you'll be able to apply to stay in this country temporarily,
without fear of deportation. You can come out of the shadows and get right with
the law.”
Obama noted in his national
address from the Oval Office that the move would not grant undocumented
immigrants citizenship or the right to remain in the country permanently, and
that he will still push for a legislative solution — akin to the bipartisan
Senate bill passed last year (in 2013).
He concluded: “I want to work with both parties to pass
a more permanent legislative solution. The day I sign that bill into law, the
actions I now take will no longer be necessary.”
DACA kids: Individuals who meet the following criteria can
apply for deferred action for childhood arrivals: (1) Are under 31 years
of age as of June 15, 2012; (2) Came to the U.S. while under the age of 16; and
(3) Have continuously resided in the U.S. from June 15, 2007 to the present.
What happened next shows the cold callousness and cruelty
of Trump:
June 15, 2017
(from
the Washington Post):
DHS Secretary John Kelly
announced that he has rescinded an Obama-era memo (cited above) that sought to
shield millions of parents of U.S. citizens and others from deportation – DACA kids
brought or born here from undocumented parents.
Kelly’s act fulfills part of
a campaign promise that Trump had made to overturn two of Barack Obama’s
controversial memos on illegal immigration. The rescinded memo was never
implemented and is the subject of an ongoing federal court battle waged by
Texas and other states that opposed Obama’s program.
Kelly’s announcement marked
the judge’s deadline for the parties to set a timetable to resolve the case,
but instead, Kelly rescinded the memo.
Kelly said on DHS homepage website
that there is “no credible path forward in
court.”
However, Trump let stand Obama’s 2012 memo (from
LawLogix.com) that granted reprieve from deportation to the nearly
800,000 undocumented immigrants who arrived as children (DACA).
My 2 cents: Under Trump, only
parents of DACA kids are in jeopardy.
That’s the dilemma: Rip kids, many here for years or even born here, away
from their parents most of whom are undocumented.
More recently, Trump lock kids up in cages in his latest border scheme –
that appears to be Trump’s M.O. / his SOP his method of dealing making. So, how
in the hell does Trump harbor such racist and cruel views about immigrants considering
his grandparents were from Germany, including two of his three wives and the newest,
Melania, got her parents here via “chain migration” which Trump has said he
dislikes. What a big hypocrite he is.
I call it: “The Trump
solution.” Most people could call it cruel and unusual justice, if even it
can be called justice.
Thanks for stopping by and reviewing this.
