Major update and blowback on the following story posted earlier - it's the same subject as the original source as this update from The Washington Examiner.
Original Story Below:
Right now, GOP House Judiciary Committee chairman, Rep. Jim Jordan
(R-OH), has gone totally over the edge of reality into the abyss of insanity
with this story from the WASHINGTON EXAMINER headline and
from most other major news outlets:
“House GOP investigating
whether Fulton County district attorney coordinated with DOJ in Trump
indictment”
Jordan’s craziness: In his letter sent to DA Fani Willis, he accused her of using the 41-count indictment of Trump to interfere with the 2024 presidential election (which Trump is the current GOP front-runner).
His request for information also comes just hours before Trump
is expected to surrender himself to Fulton County officials for his arraignment
in the case.
More from the story:
The House Judiciary Committee is launching an investigation
into Fulton County DA Fani Willis,
demanding the prosecutor turn over key information detailing the criminal indictment of Trump over
his efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
DA Willis announced the indictment charges earlier this month after conducting a 2 1/2-year investigation into Trump’s efforts to reverse his loss to President Joe Biden in Georgia, a key swing state that helped secure his Electoral College victory.
The inquiry focused on five
separate actions taken by Trump and the former president’s allies in the weeks
following the 2020 election, including phone calls made to Georgia officials to
overturn the election results.
The indictment also detailed instances in which Trump and his allies pressured local election officials, made false claims of voter fraud, and concocted a plan to recruit a fake slate of electors to certify a victory for Trump rather than Biden.
Eighteen other people were indicted alongside Trump on similar charges, including former Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani, former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, and former Trump adviser John Eastman, among others.
Republicans were quick to push back on the
indictment, arguing the timing of the charges has raised serious concerns about
its legitimacy.
Now, the House Judiciary Committee is demanding access to
all documents related to the Fulton County DA’s office’s receipt and use of
federal funds, as well as any communications between Willis’s office and the
DOJ throughout the course of her investigation.
The letter also requests access to all materials shared between the Fulton County district attorney’s office and any federal executive branch officials related to the criminal indictment of Trump or any of the other 18 co-defendants.
Jordan’s Judiciary Committee will specifically examine “…
whether Willis’s office coordinated with DOJ special counsel Jack Smith during
her investigation, citing reports that the two had interviewed many of the
same witnesses and reviewed much of the same evidence.”
Specifically Jordan wrote to DA Fani Willis:
“Your indictment and prosecution implicate substantial federal interests, and
the circumstances surrounding your actions raise serious concerns about whether
they are politically motivated. Given the weighty federal interests at stake,
the Committee is conducting oversight of this matter to determine whether any
legislative reforms are appropriate or necessary. The House Committee on the
Judiciary may investigate whether federal law enforcement agencies or officials
were involved in your investigation or indictment. It may also investigate
whether DOJ raised any concerns about how your investigation impacted federal
interests, and if so, whether and how those concerns were resolved.”
Jordan also pointed to a fundraising website highlighting DA
Willis’ investigation into Trump, which launched just days before she announced
the criminal charges against Trump.
Jordan then cited comments made by Emily Kohrs, who served
as the forewoman of the previous Fulton County Special Grand Jury, in which
“…she bragged about the prospect of subpoenaing President Trump.”
DA Willis has until September 7 to provide the information to
Jordan and it’s not yet clear whether she plans to comply.
My 2 Cents: Not in my
opinion but in many others vis-à-vis Jordan from Ohio … a total and complete
moron. Even folks in Ohio, too hold that view about him.
Someone in Ohio wrote:
“Jim Jordan is a complete idiot. He went to law school, but couldn't pass the
bar exam. He is a disgrace to the citizens of Ohio, and an embarrassment to the
House of Representatives.”
From his interview on CNN
with Dana Bash on her show: “State of the Union” this about him on that show: He
was the cantankerous Trump lapdog one would have expected to blur the lines of
reality for Donald Trump. But it was hard for the Trump sycophant to answer any
question Bash had based on the devastating 48-page Trump indictment document.
Noteworthy: Jordan never
attempts to defend Trump’s unpatriotic likely treasonous acts – he simply
attempted to destroy the process, the DOJ, the FBI, most others in government,
and of course President Joe Biden calling them fascists, commies,
insurrectionists, and left-wing loons without ever mentioning his own side's lies and nastiness.
Jordan is the center piece of this “new” Trump owned and operated GOP that is wild, angry, aggressive, and anti-everything with one mission: To support and prop up Trump and hope he wins and gives them a key slot in his administration – at least in my view. Worse all is that Speaker Kevin McCarty gives them free rein for anything they want - since he needs their vote to stay in power himself.
Thanks for stopping by.
