Startling news from Texas with a new twist on the “open
carry” gun laws that have swept the country. This new part in Texas does now require
an open carry gun permit. How insane is that? This article from SALON.com
with this headline proves my point:
“The future the GOP wants for all of America: Texas gun law
unleashes deadly mayhem”
A brand new Texas law now allows
people to carry handguns in public without a permit — a Republican achievement
that many local officials say has already led to a spike in spontaneous
shootings in highly populated parts of the state.
Imagine this high-profile case earlier this year: Tony Earls pulled out his handgun and opened fire, hoping to strike a man who had just robbed him and his wife at an ATM in Houston.
Instead his shot struck Arlene Alvarez, a 9-year-old girl seated in a
passing pickup, killing her. Sadly, a grand jury did not indict Earls. They agreed
with his lawyer who said: “Everything about that situation, we believe and
contend, was justified under Texas law.”
I Note: So, killing an innocent 9-year girl – who’s next I wonder? Lawful in Texas ... I see, I see.
The shooting was part of what many sheriffs, police leaders,
and district attorneys in urban areas of Texas say has been an increase in people
carrying weapons and in spur-of-the-moment gunfire in the year since the state
began allowing most adults 21 or over to carry a handgun without a license.
Texas with its new law has joined an expanded effort to remove nearly all restrictions on carrying handguns in public with and now without a permit.
When Alabama's open carry w/o a permit goes into effect in January, half of the states in the nation, from Maine to Arizona, will not require a license to carry a handgun.
Texas is the most populous state to do away with handgun permit
requirements. Now five of the nation's 15 biggest cities are in Texas, making
the no permit needed approach to handguns a new fact of life in urban areas to
an extent not seen in other states.
All media reporting
are saying this just like the border town of Eagle Pass and other places
writes: “Drunken arguments have flared into shootings. In El Paso, revelers
who legally bring their guns to parties have opened fire to stop fights. In and
around Houston, prosecutors have received a growing stream of cases involving
guns brandished or fired over parking spots, bad driving, loud music, and love
triangles.”
My 2 Cents: I hope you can agree with this post – truly a horrible story and ugly trend today …
Right up
front and a fact it seems: We Americans are both insane and in our love of guns
and callous about gun-related deaths all at the same time – which I believe
shames us in the eyes of the world.
Before I go any further, I
need to say again that I support the 2nd Amendment, but I can’t defend the NRA and
their like-mined supporters who have an attitude that implies: “Hands off our
guns – no policy, or rules, period – we have an absolute right to have and
carry a gun anytime, anyplace, and for any reason.”
Yes right to have own a gun
or guns; but let’s all work for some common sense gun policy where none seems
to exist today and to ensure you or I can have and keep a gun with a proper
permit even a permit to carry one, so that we can the growing madness we see
today that lacks an ounce of common sense. The story above proves my point.
Also, I said long ago and still contend about open carry and now far worse this is utter madness is that it takes us back the insane days of the “Wild, Wild West.”
How can we tolerate or allow this – it defies common sense or any other kind of rational logic - totally. Shows us that who controls the laws runs the country both the good and now obviously the very worse with this new gun laws.
Imagine the impact it will have if or when
it hits you or your family and relatives and friends?
Thanks for stopping by.
