The topic: Raising the nation’s debt ceiling to pay our bills
that are now due and thus, not causing the country to default on our obligations.
– Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) – GOP Minority “Leader” is way
off the mark in his letter to President Biden (extract above), and as Treasury
Secretary Janet Yellen explains in her interview segment on “ABC This Week”
with George Stephanopoulos as seen in the video interview below (her segment is
about 12:00 minutes long). A lot of serious issues are at stake and not for GOP
or DEM inaction.
Secretary Yellen lays out a brilliant and clearly understandable rational and logical reason for raising the debt ceiling and not causing the country to default on our obligations to pay our bills (old bill not new ones).
She also highlights the pitfalls of not raising the debt limit that Sen. McConnell and most of his Republicans fail to grasp – based on their words and inactions and in the McConnell letter to President Biden.
His attitude
clearly shows he cares squat about the country as a whole, and only cares about
his selfish political interests.
Secretary Yellen’s interview
– watch and decide for yourself:
Highlights: Secretary Yellen’s explanation on this critical issue that McConnell and the entire GOP is playing a game with is clear about what is at stake: the reputation of our country and obligation to pay our bills and keep the public safe and secure on a sound financial foundation by showing the world that the U.S. pays our bills and that we have never in our entire history default on that obligation.
McConnell
and GOP fail to see or won’t accept the fact that the issue is paying our bills
now due and not part of any new spending. A huge chunk of that falls under the
GOP’s approval of the 2017 huge tax cut.
That was the bill (GOP votes only) that benefits the top 1-2
percent and that BTW also includes Trump and his money ties.
