From
NEWSWEEK – interesting story about a brave Republican one of very few:
Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) with this headline:
“Republican Adam Kinzinger Suggests
‘Satan’ Writes Pro-Trump Fundraising
Messages”
Rep. Adam Kinzinger, an Illinois Republican, recently suggested
that Satan wrote a pro-Trump fundraising message that was sent out to
conservative donors.
Kinzinger has become one of Trump’s most vocal critics in the wake of the November 2020
general election.
He has repeatedly pushed back against the former president's
false claim that the election was “rigged or stolen” in favor of
President Joe Biden.
On Thursday post (October 14), Kinzinger re-tweeted a screenshot from a
recent pro-Trump fundraising message sent to donors by the National Republican
Congressional Committee (NRCC) that disparaged would-be donors who had not yet
contributed, suggesting they had betrayed the former president and saying: “You're
a traitor. You abandoned Trump. You had final chance to prove your loyalty, otherwise,
you would be branded a deserter.”
The NRCC gave a mere 17
minutes to contribute before the threat would apparently be implemented.
Charlie Sykes, the
founder and editor-at-large of the conservative publication The Bulwark,
tweeted the original screenshot, writing: “Who writes this sh*t? And does
it work?”
Kinzinger then retweeted and wrote to Skyes, responding to his questions: “Satan (indirectly), and yes.”
Along with nine other
Republican House members (including Cheney), Kinzinger voted to impeach Trump for inciting his supporters to
attack the U.S. Capitol on January 6. Since then, Kinzinger and Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) have become two of Trump's
staunchest conservative critics.
Cheney and Kinzinger were
appointed by Pelosi to serve on the House select committee investigating the
events of January 6.
Those two also have
received significant backlash from Republican colleagues as a result.
For example: GOP House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy
(R-CA) dubbed Kinzinger and Cheney as “Pelosi Republicans.”
Meanwhile, the conservative House Freedom Caucus (formed from
the now defunct TEA party) is urging McCarthy to find a way to oust those two from
the House Republican Conference, accusing Kinzinger and Cheney of being spies for the Democrats.
Kinzinger and Cheney also have maintained that Trump should no
longer be seen as a leader of the GOP, due to the events of January 6 and his
continued false claims that the 2020 election was fraudulent.
Despite their efforts, the majority of Republican voters
appear to have aligned themselves with Trump and his faction of the GOP.
Polling published October 13 by Morning Consult showed that
82% of Republican voters continue to view Trump favorably.
Furthermore, just over two-thirds (67%) said they want Trump
to run for president again in 2024.
Among potential 2024 GOP contenders, Trump appears to be the
clear frontrunner. That same survey found that 47% of all GOP voters would back
Trump, while former VP Mike Pence was a distant second with the support of only
13% of the same GOP respondents.
Newsweek reached out to the NRCC for a comment – they have not
responded.

Chair Michael Steele Blasts Republicans “Perpetuating” the Trump Big Lie
My 2 Cents: I am a
lifelong Democrat and I have voted in every election since I was 21 years old including
absentee while in VN and in other overseas assignments. Yet, I also have voted
for Republicans in the past (not many, but a few).
This
post relates to Republicans now turning against Trump.
I would vote to retain Kinzinger and Cheney in office if I lived in their districts based on the fact
that they both have a strong moral compass and good common sense, and they are
not rabid partisans – they stand for right and wrong and that takes guts, and I
say, Good for them.
So, it’s no wonder why Trump,
McCarthy, and many other Republicans hate Kinzinger and Cheney – they have what
most Republicans don’t have: The courage of their convictions.
Thanks for stopping by.
