Russia I Got Your Back: Power to the
People
(My Salute Shows You My Stance)
(My Salute Shows You My Stance)
S/C Robert Mueller and his team recently announced a massive indictment
against 13 Russian operatives accused of violating election law, fraud, and
failing to register as foreign agents for their alleged scheme to infiltrate
social media platforms to sway the election against (and for the most part against Hillary Clinton).
A large crux of the indictment centers on alleged violations of the
Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA). Feds say that the Russian operatives,
while concealing their identities, purchased and posted advertisements on
social media to further their scheme of influencing the election.
Noteworthy: This law prevents foreign nationals from making any
contributions or expenditures in connection with any federal, state, or local election
in the United States.
Specific rules on this topic can be see and read here from
the FEC.
But, as well-known election law
expert Rick Hasen points out, FECA is not limitless, and some of the
advertisements mentioned in the indictment might not actually be illegal.
Continue the story here for more details on this astonishing twist.
My 2 cents: I am 100% sure we will hear more on this slant to the
story.
Maybe the Russians will assign the lawyer whom Donald Jr., Manafort, and Kushner met in Trump Tower
in June 2016.
You think – remember her: Natalia
Veselnitskaya.
More on that meeting (the follow up as it were) can be seen here from CNN.
Therefore this story is potentially truly amazing and very troublesome
at the same time about what the Russians may or may not attempt, as this legal
expert says in the article, to effectively challenge and actually win against
Mueller and his indictments against them – that is using our rock-solid First
Amendment rights and protections in our own court system against us and for
them. That should concern us all.
Personally I don't think any court in the land, including the USSC, would honor the Russian challenge — but who knows for sure — but that is my hunch.

So stay tuned for more on this which I am sure is forthcoming.
And, thanks for stopping by.
