GOP: Apoplexy Time — Take a Deep Breath, Steady, Whoops, Try Again...

12 Presidents Since WW II
U.S. Economy Under Those 12 Presidents
(GOP apoplexy starts to set in about now)

Watch this short clip (about 7 minutes) to set the story scene:

Two other links on this same story but with slightly different views about the same subject follow:

From The Atlantic (here), in part: As Bill Clinton is fond of reminding us all, it is a well-established fact that, on average, the U.S. economy grows faster when a Democrat is president. Is it because liberals have better ideas or because they just have better fortune?
According to a new paper by Princeton Professors Mark Watson and Alan Blinder (himself a Clinton administration veteran), it's mostly about luck.

From The National Review (here) ... both stories present a slightly different spin on the same basic story ... and both are interesting reading.

So, factual or not? Draw your own conclusions.

For my GOPer friends out there in dreamland, or laa-laa land, keep this in mind. Facts matter as a matter of fact. The current GOP angle does not hack it, as described in this story which I think caps this issue in part (to combat or offset the GOP angle):

CAMBRIDGE, MD – House Republicans are looking to shed the “party of no” label that’s followed them after losing a whole year to congressional gridlock. The new buzzword: alternative.  “It’s important we show the American people we’re not just the opposition party, we’re the alternative party,” Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) told reporters at a press conference ahead of the House GOP’s annual retreat.

A key reason for this revamp can be seen in a recent NBC/WSJ Poll: a whopping 81% of Americans disapproved of Congress. (I also posted about this in the next  post below).

Thanks for stopping by.
